Dallas/Fort Worth is one of the fastest growing metropolitan cities in the United States. The Indian immigrant population in this city is also growing very rapidly. The inherited culture of this community always gives importance to spiritual nourishment in any form, and to fellowship with others, but it is a bare truth that this community is not well reached or well served in this aspect.
A few brothers shared this concern to their friends who have the same faith and objectives. Hence on August 15 & 22, 1998 representatives from 19 families came together to discuss about the spiritual well-being and fellowship of the fastest growing Indian community, especially their next generation. The assembled brothers unanimously decided to form a local Indian Pentecostal church to better serve this community in their spiritual needs. They also decided to name this church as "Indian Pentecostal Church, Tabernacle, Dallas, Inc." and to incorporate this as a non-profit organization under Texas law.
The church held its first worship service on August 30th, 1998 with 19 families. The total families increased from 19 in September 1998 to 42 in September 1999. Rev. Daniel V. Mathai served as an interim pastor in the beginning, until Rev. Jacob Koshy took charge as senior pastor.
Rev. Jacob Koshy was selected as the pastor in the month of September in 1998 and served the church as its pastor until July of 2000. It was under his leadership the congregation could purchase it's own property.
Rev. Daniel Samuel (Veeyapuram Georgekutty), from Chicago, Illinois, was invited by the congregation to serve as the next pastor in July of 2000. Pastor Samuel served the church until July of 2005. Under the leadership of Pastor Daniel Samuel, the church grew in membership and spirituality.
Rev. Thomas V. Koshy, from Chicago, Illinois, was invited by the congregation to serve as the third pastor in July of 2005. Rev. Koshy has more than 30 years of experience pastoring local churches in Bombay, Houston, New York and Chicago. Pastor Koshy is a well-known preacher and administrator in our community.
